Overview

Khoo Teck Puat Hospital

Hospital capacity: 659 beds.

The hospital was named after the Singaporean hotelier Khoo Teck Puat. The hospital was officially opened by Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew on November 15, 2010, but began admitting outpatients and day surgery patients on March 28, 2010. The hospital covers an area of 8.5 hectares (8.6 acres) in the central part of Yishun City overlooking the picturesque Yishun Pond.

Khoo Teck Puat Hospital Design

Khoo Teck Puat Clinic was designed by CPG Consultants in collaboration with RMJM to provide patient convenience. There is only one drop-off point for the hospital, which is only 20 meters from the emergency department and 20 to 40 meters from specialized clinics. There are no protruding corners or cabinets in the rooms, so patients are less likely to injure themselves. The hospital also includes environmentally friendly features. The building uses 30% less energy than other hospitals.

The "ribs" along the walls of the building are designed to direct the prevailing northeasterly winds into the building. Wind tunnel tests conducted at the National University of Singapore have shown that the fins will increase airflow by 20-30%. Awnings over windows protect patients from direct, bright sunlight. The shades also redirect light to the ceiling to enhance the brightness of the chambers and save on energy use. Large fans in public areas are powered by solar panels on the roof. The air conditioning system draws fresh air from its courtyards, where the air is colder, reducing the cooling load.

Healthcare in Singapore & Khoo Teck Puat Hospital

Singapore is one of the top medical tourism destinations in the world. With relatively low healthcare costs, state-of-the-art medical technology and highly trained doctors, Singapore's private hospitals offer exceptional medical services.

Singapore was ranked 6th in the World Health Organization's Health Systems Index in 2000, and the consistent city-state continued to hold that position in the top 10 list in 2012. Singapore was ranked 2nd in Bloomberg's 2018 healthcare performance rankings, second only to Hong Kong. Medical tourism patients in Singapore are attracted to quality medical care in a comfortable, English-speaking, clean environment.

Singapore has established International Patient Service Centers (IPSCs) that operate as "medical travel agencies". IPSCs are designed specifically for medical tourists and expatriate patients and are attached to hospitals to provide information and assistance to international patients. IPSCs provide patient pricing and coordinate appointments with healthcare professionals.
