Departments of the Dunyagoz Hospital Group

Dunyagoz Hospital Group is widely known not only in Turkey, but also far beyond its borders, as one of the most advanced centres where high-precision diagnostics and high-quality treatment of various eye diseases are carried out. The clinic includes the following departments:

General Vision Centre

During an ophthalmological examination, eyelids, lacrimal canals are checked, visual acuity is determined. The doctor measures intraocular pressure, conducts an examination of the fundus and biomicroscopic examination of the layers of the cornea and the iris. The whole procedure takes place within half an hour.

To conduct a high-quality detailed diagnostics of the cornea, retinal layers, optic nerve fibres, OCT (optical coherence tomography) is performed at the Dunyagoz. This method involves scanning the eye tissues with infrared light. Using OCT, the doctor assesses the condition of the tissue with high resolution. The analysis of the retina is carried out at the level of layers, which consist of cells, and the optic nerve is analysed at the level of its fibres.

Department of Cataract Surgery

Femtolaser surgery is used to treat cataracts. A significant part of the stages of the operation are automated, which minimises the risk of infection and significantly reduces the recovery period. The manipulation lasts 15 minutes.
Another method used is the Phaco method. This method involves the use of ultrasonic waves.

Centre for Laser Technology and IOL Implantation

To treat farsightedness, myopia and astigmatism, Dunyagoz's specialists use an excimer laser. In most cases, the effectiveness of this treatment is 98%. For vision correction, iLASIK laser, IFS Visex, Argon Laser are used.

In addition, the treatment of cataracts and refractive disorders in the eye is carried out by implanting an intraocular lens. During this surgery, the natural lens is replaced with a lens made using a special technology.

Phakic lenses are an alternative to intraocular lenses. They are used for all refractive disorders, hyperopic astigmatism, hyperopia, myopia and myopic astigmatism. Phakic lens correction somehow differs from laser surgery; it can be used for patients with high myopia and those suffering from farsightedness.

Farsightedness Treatment Centre

To treat farsightedness, the Karma cornea technique is used; the same technique is used for myopia. PresbyLASK laser technology is used and the natural lens is replaced with an artificial one. The procedures are performed on the latest equipment using the most modern techniques, which ensures safety and guarantees a high result of the surgery.

Centre for the Treatment of Retinal Diseases

The Department of Retinal Diseases of the Dunyagoz Clinic offers treatment for:
  • retinal vein occlusion;
  • retinal detachment;
  • diabetic retinopathy;
  • macular degeneration;
  • congenital diseases of the retina;
  • retinal tumors;
  • vitreoretinal pathology.

Glaucoma Treatment Centre

For glaucoma, Dunyagoz may prescribe special daily medications to reduce intraocular pressure. If, for some reason, drug therapy is not suitable for the patient, then surgical intervention is used. In this case, a small hole is made in the white of the eye to let excess fluid out. As a result, eye pressure drops. This method is suitable for almost all patients, it has no contraindications.

In the acute form of glaucoma, a laser is used to prevent the deterioration of the condition.

Department of Pediatric Ophthalmology

The Department of Pediatric Ophthalmology at the Dunyagoz specialises in the treatment of:
  • cataracts,
  • glaucoma,
  • eyelid diseases,
  • various eye injuries
  • corneal lesions,
  • strabismus,
  • retinal diseases,
  • retinopathy of premature babies.
If necessary, children are anesthetised in a special sterile room using disposable supplies approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

Centre of Strabismus Treatment

Strabismus is an incorrect, asymmetrical position of eyes. It often develops in children with a violation of the development of binocular vision. In addition, strabismus can be caused by trauma, brain disease, diphtheria, measles, influenza, etc.

Specialists of Dunyagoz Hospital Group use a number of methods of strabismus treatment:

  • Optical correction (wearing special glasses);
  • Pleoptic correction (enhanced image quality);
  • Orthoptic correction (using various devices);
  • Surgical treatment.

Centre of Amblyopia Treatment

If the cause of strabismus is amblyopia, then the patient is prescribed appropriate glasses or a special bandage. For the treatment of strabismus, physiotherapeutic procedures aimed at the eye muscle are prescribed.

In case of amblyopia ("lazy eye"), various methods are used:
  • to force the weakened eye to work, the healthy eye is covered with a sterile bandage;
  • performing various exercises in addition to the bandage is also prescribed;
  • for 5+ years old children, an interactive computer program, designed to increase the activity of the lazy eye is used;
  • for 10+ years old children, the Neurovision method is used. A special program teaches the patient to process visual information in a correct way.
If a child's cataracts or drooping eyelids cause amblyopia deprivation, surgery may be performed in this case. In addition to various treatments for amblyopia, a doctor may suggest surgical correction to help straighten the eyes if they continue to cross or wander even with suitable glasses.

Department of Oculoplastic Surgery

The Department of Oculoplastic Surgery performs enucleation of the eye and prosthetics, operations on the eyelids, lacrimal canals, corrects ptosis, and operates on eye tumors.

Enucleation is a surgical operation in which the eyeball is removed with the intersection of the external muscles of the eye and the optic nerve. At the same time, the conjunctiva is left for further prosthetics. For the patient, wearing a prosthesis is important not only to preserve the aesthetic appearance, but also so that the conjunctival cavity does not decrease in size.

During prosthetics, a prosthetic eyeball is installed. It is installed behind the eyelids so as to create an imitation of the visible part of the eyeball. The prosthesis is made of glass or plastic.

Centre for Treatment of Corneal Diseases

Corneal diseases can be caused by many causes: trauma, eye burns (including chemical burns), corneal ulcers, keratoconus and keratoglobus. With such diseases and injuries of the cornea, surgical intervention is necessary.

There are two types of surgical treatment of corneal diseases:
  • corneal transplantation (keratoplasty) — replacement of a damaged cornea with a healthy donor one;
  • keratoprosthetics — when an artificial prosthesis is installed.

Center for Contact Lenses Selection

At the Dunyagoz Centre for Contact Lenses Selection, you will be given a consultation, an eye test and help you choose the right lenses.
Contact lenses can correct visual impairment and treat corneal diseases. Lenses are selected by an ophthalmologist strictly individually.
They must fit the structure of the eye.

Centre of Neuro-ophthalmology

At the Neuro-Ophthalmology Center of the Dunyagoz Hospital, patients are treated with problems such as optic neuritis, temporary loss of vision, diplopia, hallucinations, ptosis. Optical coherence tomography is performed, which allows early detection of Parkinson's and Alzheimer's disease.

Department of Eye Infections

The department diagnoses and treats various infectious eye diseases, including Behçet's disease. Any infectious eye diseases are much easier to treat at an early stage than in an advanced form. During the treatment of eye infections, it is important to strictly adhere to the recommendations of the doctor.

Dunyagoz's Leading Doctors

The doctors of the Dunyagoz clinics have extensive experience and deep knowledge, which allows them to constantly improve treatment methods through research in the field of ophthalmology.

The high qualification of the medical staff, along with the technological infrastructure, allows to conduct diagnostics and treatment at the highest level, in accordance with generally accepted medical protocols.

Corneal transplant at the Dunyagoz clinics

Keratoplasty is the transplantation of a cornea that has lost its shape or transparency. This is a surgical operation that is performed using high-precision medical equipment. During this manipulation, the cornea is replaced with a donor or keratoprosthesis. It is possible to replace the entire cornea completely or only damaged cells.

The Dunyagoz clinics use the latest methods for corneal transplantation: DALK, DSAEK or DMEK.

The transplantation method at the Dunyagoz clinics is selected individually and depends on the state of the endothelial cells that are responsible for the transparency of the cornea.

Transplantation of the anterior part of the cornea is called anterior lamellar keratoplasty (DALK), corneal endothelial replacement surgery is called DSAEK, DMEK.

In Dunyagoz clinics, such operations are performed on a regular basis. A full corneal transplant is now performed only in cases of extreme necessity.

If necessary, DALK anterior lamellar keratoplasty is performed.

For corneal edema, the DSAEK or DMEK method is used. This is a seamless method. After transplantation, you can gradually return to your usual life after 2-3 weeks.

Proper Selection of Lenses at the Dunyagoz Hospital Group

In the treatment of eye diseases, attention to the patient and an individual approach are very important. Specialists select lenses for each patient individually, taking into account their age, lifestyle and specifically their needs, whether it is the need for a long night drive, powerlifting or the need for prolonged sitting at a computer monitor.
In order to choose the right lenses for your eyes, you need to undergo diagnostics, have intraocular pressure and corneal curvature, measured, etc. In addition, when choosing lenses, you need to pay attention to the color of the lenses, with which you can improve color reproduction, the material from which the lenses are made.

Speaking about the selection of lenses for athletes, then the type of sport also matters here. For example, for football, volleyball, basketball players, polarization of lenses and protection from UV rays are important. The coating must be photochromic.

For representatives of cycling and motorsports, glass lenses cannot be used. It is better to choose from polycarbonate with a degree of dimming 1-3 and an anti-fog coating.

Дуньягоз

For swimmers, goggles with neoprene frames are selected for good sealing. The number of diopters in glasses for swimming should be less than for daily use. The color of the lenses depends on the depth of the pool or the type of water.

For skiers, an important feature when choosing lenses is 1a double UV filter and an anti-reflective coating.

If a driver suffering from refractive errors needs to pick up lenses, then colourless lenses with an anti-reflective coating are suitable for him. These lenses increase the amount of light that reaches the eyes. For night driving, you can use photochromic lenses with an anti-reflective coating if they transmit light well at night.

In general, the choice of lenses is a very responsible process that an ophthalmologist should deal with after a thorough diagnostics.

We advise you to contact the network of Dunyagoz clinics for this.
