Liv Hospital - Patients' reviews

Every year, the Liv Hospital receives thousands of international patients, who come here from all over the world for high-quality medicine. Read the stories of happy people who have been helped by the professional doctors of Liv Hospital.
The story of a little girl who had an accident
We received the request from the parents of a 3-year-old girl. Little Gaukhar was hit by a car and as a result of the accident, the trigeminal nerve was damaged. The little girl spent 3 days in ICU. After that, Gaukhar returned to normal life then, she began to get on her feet slowly, play and study, but the problem could not be completely avoided. Back home, she was diagnosed with facial nerve palsy.

Gaukhar’s father turned to us for help to find the right specialist for the treatment of his daughter and choose a clinic with the high specialization in her diagnosis. We organized a trip to the LIV Hospital at Istinye University. For several months we were preparing for the trip, keeping in touch with the family, negotiating with doctors and organizing the entire process of future treatment for the girl.

Two specialists were involved in the treatment process at once: Dr. Nezir Ozgun
(a member of the European Association of Neurologists) and Prof. Gulis Kavavdar, (specialists in rehabilitation and physiotherapy). Joint efforts and long hard work have improved Gaukhar's condition. At present, the child is under supervision of her attending doctors and continues her rehabilitation course at the clinic. The grateful family decided to take a photo for memory.
Successful treatment of Arnold-Chiari malformation at the LIV hospital
In June 2020, a patient from Ukraine turned to us for help. At the place of residence, Irina was diagnosed with syringomyelia, an Arnold-Chiari malformation. She complained about loss of sensitivity in her fingers.

Over time, it turned out that they were completely immobilized and required immediate surgical intervention. The disease did not allow the patient to live normally. There were no positive dynamics and improvements at the country of residence. Unfortunately, in Ukraine people with similar diseases have extremely low chance to be cured. Irina knew this, so she did not waste time and contacted us.

We set to work. We scrupulously selected doctors who specialize in this disease, prepared all the conditions for a successful flight. The LIV Hospital Istanbul became the best option for Irina's treatment.

The treatment was carried out by a highly qualified surgeon, associate professor of medical sciences Baran Yilmaz. The surgery was successfully completed. After three weeks of treatment, Irina's condition improved significantly. Having purchased all the necessary medications, Irina together with her husband returned to Ukraine.

What are the conditions for patients at Liv Hospital?

The clinic presents modern equipment from the best world manufacturers, which is updated every year. Such as Medtronic, Philips, GE Healthcare and others. Patients are treated with the usage of the latest innovative treatment methods. These methods and the equipment are available only in a few medical centers of the world besides Turkey (Europe and the USA have similar equipment for innovative treatment).

Leading doctors at Liv Hospital

Most Turkish doctors have studied at well-known medical universities in Turkey, USA, UK, Germany, France and are now working in Turkey. In 2019, according to statistics, more than 1 million patients came to Turkey for treatment. This is very important, because with such a flow of patients, doctors get a lot of experience. All of them are practitioners who perform a large number of surgeries each year in their field. The practical experience of a doctor directly increases the chances of success, and in this regard, Turkish doctors are very much ahead of their colleagues from Germany and South Korea.

The main specializations for treatment in Liv Hospital

The main specialization of Liv Hospital network are the following areas of medicine:
  • Orthopedics and traumatology;
  • Oncology;
  • Neurosurgery and spinal surgery;
  • Treatment of obesity;
  • Gastroenterology;
  • Cardiac surgery;
  • Dentistry;
  • Obstetrics and gynecology;
  • Transplantology.

Neurology and neurourgery

The LIV Surgery Center uses a new operating system. Operations on the spinal cord and brain can now be performed in a minimally invasive way. The effectiveness of this operation is estimated at 91% - an extremely high rate. All types of neurosurgical operations are also performed here: removal of cysts, tumors, aneurysms or hernias.

Liv Hospital doctors have patented a unique method of treating Alzheimer's, Epilepsy, Parkinson's and other neurological diseases.

Orthopedics

Liv Hospital has a MakoPlasty system, which makes it possible to model joints and replace damaged ones with them.
The clinic's specialists interact with the international community of spinal surgeons - AOSpine. The system is robotic and innovative. Hip replacement and herniated disc removal are among the most requested surgical interventions among tourist patients at Liv Hospital.

The clinic serves well-known football clubs and football players. FC "Galatasaray" is one of the permanent sports partners of the medical center. Liv Hospital provides professional care in the field of orthopedics. Football players often get injuries to muscles, joints or ligaments. Liv Hospital copes with the treatment of such injuries quickly and efficiently.

Oncology

At Liv Hospital, all types of malignant tumors are treated not only by surgery, but also by minimally invasive methods.

They try to carry out surgical interventions with robotic equipment ("Da Vinci" robotic surgical system) and in a minimally invasive ways. The clinic has a modern TrueBeam unit in the radiotherapy department, which is one of the reasons for the pride of the clinic, as there are only a few of these units in the world.

Liv Hospital takes a holistic approach to cancer treatment.
A patient's cancer is considered from many profiles (examination by specialists in different areas) and general treatment protocols are used, methods are combined to achieve the best result. All this is called an integrated approach.
Oncologists and psychologists of the medical center collectively decide which treatment will be more effective for a particular patient. The final treatment is determined by the Tumor Board, taking into account all modern approaches and relying on the individual characteristics of the patient. Treatment for each patient is selected individually and only in this way. As a result, the risk of complications for the patient is minimized and the entire treatment process is easier to tolerate.

Diagnostics at Liv Hospital

A quick and high-quality check-up of the whole body is the specialty of the clinic.
Check-up for prevention purposes will help to identify problems that are not yet noticeable in the body, and the regularity of this procedure is the most effective prevention of cancer and many others.

The following diagnostic studies are carried out:
  • Genetic diagnostics;
  • Angiography;
  • Biopsy (including endomyocardial biopsy, CT-guided biopsy);
  • All types of laboratory diagnostics (including the determination of tumor markers);
  • Cardiotocography (CTG);
  • Prenatal diagnostics;
  • Fibrogastroduodenoscopy ;
  • All types of ECG (with exercise, Holter monitoring);
  • Colposcopy;
  • Hysteroscopy;
  • Mammography;
  • Colonoscopy;
  • CT (including CT of the heart);
  • All types of X-ray examination;
  • MRI;
  • PET (including PET-CT, positron emission mammography);
  • Ventriculography;
  • Ultrasound (including 4D sonography (4D-ultrasound));
  • ECHO-KG (including transthoracic, transesophageal echocardiography, fetal echocardiography, dobutamine stress echocardiography);
  • Scintigraphy.

Surgery and robots

Robots in the field of medical surgery have brought great benefits to humanity. An example is prostate surgery. Earlier, after such surgeries, incontinence and difficulty with erection could occur. And after such an innovation as robotic technology, the possibility of incontinence after surgical interventions is close to zero. It has become easier to diagnose prostate cancer and remove everything without unnecessary damage. Also, this method of treatment provides that it is possible to return to a healthy sexual life as soon as possible. Robots give more confidence in the safe conduct of operations and guarantee faster recovery times. Therefore, at this stage of development, fears and disadvantages in these technologies have not been found.
