Specializations of Memorial Hospital Group

Memorial Hospital Group is very popular among patients from around the world. This is due to the fact that highly qualified specialists work here and the most modern innovative equipment is used for diagnostics and treatment. The clinics of the network specialize in the following areas:

Ophthalmology

Each ophthalmic operation is performed by experienced surgeons using innovative technologies and equipment. Nearly 100% of cataract surgeries are performed under drip anesthesia using a phacoemulsification technique that does not require suturing.

In the Ophthalmology Center of Memorial Hospital Group, all types of complex vitreoretinal operations are successfully performed, such as vitrectomy of the flat part, peeling of the internal limiting membrane, foveal translocation operations for macular degeneration due to senile age.

Corneal transplantation is performed using a donor cornea obtained from Eye Banks.

Excimer laser applications for the correction of myopic, astigmatic and hyperopic vision are performed using the LASIK method and drip anesthesia.

Corneal transplant. Corneal transplants are most often performed to restore vision to a person with a damaged cornea. A transplant can restore vision, reduce pain, and improve the appearance of a damaged or diseased cornea. Transplantation is used to treat a number of conditions, including:
  • corneal ulcers, including those caused by infection;
  • corneal scarring caused by infection or trauma;
  • Fuchs' dystrophy;
  • corneal thinning;
  • protrusion of the cornea (keratoconus);
  • clouding of the cornea;
  • corneal edema;
  • complications from previous eye surgery.

Excimer laser. Thanks to advances in technology, the modern excimer laser is very reliable and effective in treating refractive errors. Each individual laser pulse covers the ligaments between corneal cells. Since the laser affects only certain areas of the cornea, it does not damage the visual center.

LASIK. The excimer LASIK laser is used to cut the flap in the cornea and fold it. Thanks to this technique, pain after surgery is significantly reduced. Patients reach an adequate level of vision the very next day. LASIK is a type of refractive surgery to correct nearsightedness, farsightedness, and the actual treatment of astigmatism. There is no distinct spot on the cornea. Very rarely, a refractive error develops again after lasik surgery. Stabilization is completed within a month.

The goal of refractive surgery is to minimize or eliminate refractive error if possible. If the patient can see without glasses as well as he can see with them after surgery, then this is considered a successful result.

LASEK. If the patient has contraindications for using the LASIK laser, then LASEK is used. The procedure is also performed under drip anesthesia. The patient does not feel pain during the laser procedure. The anterior layer of the cornea is lifted, then laser vision correction is performed. After laser exposure, the cornea layer is folded back and a contact lens is put on it. The contact lens stays in place until this layer heals on its own. With this technique, vision begins to improve the next day, but full recovery takes 3 to 4 weeks.

In the ophthalmology department of the Memorial Clinic, the patient will not experience any inconvenience of a domestic nature in conditions of limited vision. Here the patient will be met by friendly staff, ready to answer all the questions. Physical and psychological comfort will be fully provided. The treatment plan will be selected individually, taking into account all the nuances of the course of the disease.

Neurosurgery

The right choice would be to contact the neurosurgical department of the Memorial Clinic.
Endoscopic and minimally invasive interventions are predominantly used here. Thanks to these methods, it is possible to experience less pain after surgery, to recover faster, and return to normal life. In the neurosurgery departments of Memorial Hospital Group, complex surgeries are performed to treat diseases of the brain and spinal cord.

Thanks to cutting-edge technology and an experienced plastic surgery staff, Memorial Neurosurgical Services demonstrate the highest quality in intensive care units. CT, MRI and angiography of the nervous system provide information about the nature and respiratory diseases.

Extremely delicate operations are performed using methods such as microscopy, neuromonitoring with neuronavigation, CUSA (ultrasound surgery), stereotaxis.

For spine diseases, surgeries are performed on the intervertebral discs using open, closed and micromethods, in addition, the narrowing of the spinal canal and fixation of the spine is performed by anterior, lateral and other approaches. The spinal cord itself is intervened using the CUSA laser and microscopy.

As for the vascular diseases of the brain and spinal cord, interventions are performed using microsurgical techniques and microscopes. This is done in order to achieve maximum results and minimize damage to healthy tissue.

Pediatric neurosurgical diseases are also treated here. Patients receive pre- and postoperative care in Memorial Hospital's ICUs. They are fitted up with the latest technological equipment and use the most advanced treatment protocols.

Surgical interventions are performed by microsurgical and endoscopic methods in both adults and children with tumors of the brain and nerves. The patient's condition is assessed by a board of neurosurgeons, radiation oncologists, medical oncologists and neuroradiologists. For some tumors, long-term chemotherapy (drug therapy) or radiation therapy is planned. Operations for the skull base tumors (especially of the pituitary gland) are performed with the participation of a surgical team and an ENT doctor.

Surgical treatment of various spine diseases is carried out as well. Rehabilitation services are planned in conjunction with the Department of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation.

Orthopedics and Traumatology

The Department of Orthopedics and Traumatology of Memorial Hospital Group provides the most appropriate medical and surgical treatment for patients, examining congenital and acquired diseases of the musculoskeletal system. This specialization is dynamically developing.
The Department of Orthopedics and Traumatology of the Memorial Clinic will offer top-level service and treatment from the best specialists.
  • Arthroscopic surgery
    A minimally invasive technique that allows the diagnostics and treatment of intra-articular injuries and diseases. This is a type of endoscopy, in which optics and special instruments are introduced through small incisions (usually about 1 cm) into the joint cavity. This allows to perform various manipulations on intra-articular formations.
  • Sports traumatology
    The Department of Sports Traumatology of the Memorial Clinic provides emergency diagnostics and treatment of all sports injuries.
  • Leg length inequality
    The difference in the length of the lower limbs is an orthopedic problem, which today is successfully solved by the Ilizarov method.
    The method is based on the “Ilizarov effect”: if, after crossing, the bone is gradually pulled out with the help of the apparatus, the space between the fragments is filled with bone tissue. As a result, the shape and length of the legs are adjusted. The technique allows to increase the patient's height by 5-7 cm. A complex design of rings and spokes allows to firmly fix the correct position, ensuring the alignment of the axis of the limb.
  • Pediatric Orthopedics and Traumatology
    Walking disorders, foot problems, congenital deformities, short stature, development of hip dysplasia and spinal diseases are monitored and treated.
  • Knee Surgery and Arthroscopic Surgery
    The knees are subjected to the greatest load compared to other joints. Unpreparedness before starting sports and excessive stress on the knees leads to cartilage damage, ruptures in the joints, torn ligaments and poor knee health. Arthroscopy is currently the most common method of orthopedic surgery.
    Knee arthroscopy is also performed to remove detached fragments of the joint, repair damaged cartilage, treat infections and diseases of the joint space, joint tumors, etc.
  • Hand surgery and microsurgery
    Hand surgery is a branch of reconstructive and plastic surgery that deals with the restoration of tendons, bones, nerves, and blood vessels of the hand.
    Thanks to the microsurgical technique, it is possible to operate on vessels and nerves with a diameter of less than 1 mm. For this, magnifying optics and automatic needles with ultra-fine threads are used.
    Microsurgery is the most difficult level; it allows to restore lost functions with pinpoint precision.
  • Injuries
    Successful results in common injuries can be achieved using modern effective methods of treatment. In cases that do not require surgical intervention, it is more effective to use the method of functional fixation instead of classical plastering. This is a new casting technique that provides a less rigid load on the muscles. For faster and more efficient bone healing, bone stimulators are used. Thanks to the effect of ultrasonic waves, the healing time is halved, especially with stress and small bone fractures. For some intra-articular fractures, minor interventional and arthroscopic operations are performed. This reduces the likelihood of joint stiffness and reduces the recovery time.

Alternative methods of classical arthroplasty include:

Mosaic chondroplasty. A plastic surgery performed to replace cartilage defects in a joint. It can be performed both with the use of autotissue (the patient's own tissue) and with the help of a bipolymer film.
Chondroplasty helps patients who have a defect in the loaded surface of the cartilage, arthrosis of the 2nd and 3rd degree. At the same time, the range of motion is preserved.

Robotic arm. Thanks to the robotic arm, it is impossible to damage healthy tissues during surgery, so a quicker recovery and a shorter hospitalization period, compared to traditional surgical prosthetics, are achieved.
